We created a green destination model with the Sustainable Energy Based Tourism Application Center (SENTRUM) project. Our aim is to transform the chosen destination, promote sustainable tourism and support local economic development.

What is Green and Sustainability Tourism?
The inevitable steps in tackling the climate crisis is using clean and renewable energy resources, ensuring energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, using water efficiently, and extending tourism practices that avoid wastes. Tourism is also an important tool in local economic development. This is where the sustainable tourism concept comes into play.
Idea Partners
We, at Enerjisa, joined forces with Sabancı University and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We have developed the SENTRUM project to support sustainable tourism. We transform our first destination, Küçükköy-Ayvalık, as the centre of change and transformation that we dream of.
Located in Küçükköy, Ayvalık, where we will carry out the project, Sabancı University Creative Technologies Workshop offers trainings and workshops in line with the sustainability concept.
United Nations Development Program (UNDP), on the other hand, contributes to the project in order to establish a "sustainable green destination model" in Küçükköy, raise awareness of tourism-related businesses and local people on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy resources, and expand other sustainable tourism practices.

Why Prefer Green Destinations?
The tourism industry consumes energy and water intensively and generates a significant amount of waste. Hence, transforming tourism in line with sustainable tourism principles is of great significance. Thus, the green destinations with the goal to make the tourism industry more sustainable come into play at this point.
The goal of green destinations include protecting environment, preventing wasting, benefiting from green energy, ensuring energy efficiency, contributing to the social and economic empowerment of local people and expanding sustainable tourism practices. In brief, green destinations try to mitigate and reverse the adverse impacts of the tourism industry.
